Happy Adoption Stories - Maggie
March 10, 2006
Dear Pasadena Humane Society,
Last August, 2005 I adopted a fabulous Border Collie, who I have
re-named MAGGIE the MAGNIFICENT. I have attached the original photo
of her, which brought us together. As you can see, she was a sad
and pathetic little doggy. When I first met her (along with my Golden
Retriever, Bonnie), she was absolutely filthy and smelled like a
skunk.. her hair was falling out, and she was dejected and scared.
Still, her intelligence, gentleness and hilarious personality couldn't
help but shine through the lost look and I felt a bond with her
right away. Another person had already chosen her and actually even
done the entire socialization process and approval but the office
told me I could show up that Saturday morning at 9 A.M., hoping
they wouldn't come to get her. I came early, with Bonnie in tow,
on the odd chance that she might end up being my dog.
When I came in the Office, they said that the family was going
to keep her. I walked out to my car, sad - but accepting. I put
Bonnie back into my car and was just driving out the driveway when
I heard a voice yelling my, "Ma'am! WAIT!!" The Dog Counselor
was running after my car, to tell me that the other family had just
called to say they decided not to adopt Maggie. I could hardly believe
it. We went back inside and within 30 minutes I had this adorable
little Border Collie riding home with me in my car.
She and Bonnie have been the best of dog pals ever since. She was
just meant to be a part of our family and we all adore her. She
has put on weight, her hair is a gorgeous brownish red and white
color and we have discovered her incredible intelligence, her high
energy and her hilarious antics which keep us on our toes and laughing.
Life is a three ring circus when you have a Border Collie, believe
me! You had better think twice - or thrice- before you adopt one
of these super-charged turbo dogs. I have her in AKC Obedience Class
right now and she is about to graduate next Saturday. What a bright
dog! What a challenge - I have fallen in love with this dog and
this breed, and will probably always adopt Border Collies from now
on. We walk in the Arroyo every day and she sleeps in bed with me,
right next to Bonnie. I am so happy that she is my pet - she was
the perfect match. Next month she is going to go to a sheep ranch
for herding lessons - I can't wait to see what she does.
So, thanks to the Humane Society for matching us up! I love my
beautiful Maggie!
