Happy Adoption Stories - Junior

9/26/2007

This is about "Junior" a "Canaan" dog that I adopted in April of this year. I am happy to have her, although I doubt she is a Canaan dog. I am writing to tell about MY success story out of the Pasadena shelter. I must say that I was put off at first by all the requirements and testing, though understandably warranted for all circumstances... My dog's test scores weren't "high"; she made steady eye contact with the tester and was considered unpredictable and aggressive.

I brought her from Pasadena to Montana. A big change for a "city" dog. It did take some time for her to acclimate to the country life and traveling in the car ("not a good car dog"). Sure, she threw up on day one, but never since and now happily jumps into the car to go on an adventure.

She was said also to have "separation anxiety" by her prior owner. However, since she spends most of her time with me, it hasn't been an issue. In fact, she is so confident now in her position within the family that I do leave her at home at times the entire day with no worry. She sleeps and/or keeps herself entertained. It has never been an issue.

She is the best watch dog. She doesn't bark much at all, if ever. But, at night, if she hears a noise she will growl and then go check things out then come back to bed. Fearless.

Cuddler at night. Acts like a puppy still and everyone thinks she is, although she is about two years old now.

What else?? Oh, she and the new horse LOVE each other! They share the grain and communicate through eye contact....
